THE FORMULA
Macadamia Nut Oil Rich in oleic and palmitoleic fatty acids, macadamia gives NOIR a soft, skin-compatible feel. Chosen for cushion, comfort, and the way it conditions coarse beard hair without making the formula feel heavy.
Camellia Seed Oil Naturally rich in oleic acid, camellia gives the formula refined glide and a smooth afterfeel. Chosen for elegance, slip, and skin comfort beneath the beard.
Abyssinian Oil Pressed from Crambe abyssinica seed and known for its high level of long-chain erucic acid. Chosen for slip, shine, and a lightweight finish that helps the beard feel smoother and easier to manage.
Marula Oil High in oleic acid, with smaller amounts of palmitic, stearic, and linoleic fatty acids. Chosen for a soft, nourishing feel that helps condition dry-feeling beard hair without weighing it down.
Kukui Nut Oil Naturally high in unsaturated fatty acids, especially linoleic acid. Chosen for softness, comfort, and a lighter feel on the skin beneath the beard.
Meadowfoam Oil One of the most stable plant oils used in grooming. Chosen to support the freshness of the blend while giving the beard a smooth finish and soft sheen.
Castor Oil Naturally rich in ricinoleic acid, the fatty acid that gives castor oil its distinctive body and grip. Used in a restrained amount to add control and a fuller conditioned feel without making the formula sticky.
Vitamin E Added at a low level to support oxidative stability of the blend and contribute to overall skin feel.

HOW TO USE
Folium beard oil works best on a beard that is still slightly damp, after a shower, or after rinsing with warm water.
Because beard oil is anhydrous, it does not add water on its own. Applying it to a slightly damp beard helps soften the hair, condition the skin beneath, and reduce moisture loss.
Start with two or three drops in the palms, rub your hands together, then work through the beard and into the skin beneath. Comb or brush through to distribute evenly.
Your hands will usually tell you when it’s too much. The beard should feel softer and more controlled, not oily.

THE PROCESS
Rather than beginning with a finished fragrance concentrate, NOIR was composed from individual aromatic materials. It began with black tea, oakmoss, and vetiver. From there, frankincense, saffron, ambroxan, Iso E Super, Kephalis, and a layered cedar accord were introduced, evaluated, and revised until each served a clear role within the composition.
The finished fragrance was then introduced into Folium’s conditioning base, creating a beard oil with the structure and progression of a fine fragrance.
Its cold, grey character was shaped by rainy days, black tea, and the lugubrious atmosphere of Scriabin’s Op. 51, No. 2.

NOIR is a cold, dark fragrance built around black tea and vetiver. Saffron and black tea open the composition; frankincense, vetiver, and suede form the heart; and oakmoss, ambergris, and cold woods settle into the base. The result is dry, woody, and atmospheric, closer to a niche fragrance than a conventional scented beard oil.
Beard oil conditions facial hair and the skin beneath it. Applied regularly, it can soften coarse beard hair, make it easier to manage, and help reduce the dry, tight feeling that often develops beneath a beard. NOIR combines a botanical oil base with added fragrance, so it works as both daily beard care and a close-wearing scent.
Beard oil may help when itch or light flaking is caused by dryness. Apply NOIR to a clean, slightly damp beard and work it down to the skin beneath. The oil helps condition the hair and reduce moisture loss. Persistent redness, broken skin, or recurring irritation may have another cause and should not be treated as dryness alone.
NOIR is built on botanical oils including camellia, abyssinian, kukui, and meadowfoam, selected for their light, smooth feel within the finished blend. Even so, no cosmetic formula suits everyone; skin response depends on the complete formula, the amount used, and individual sensitivity. Start with two or three drops, work the oil through the beard and skin beneath, and discontinue use if irritation or breakouts occur. Prefer no added fragrance? Beard oil is the lightest option and is easiest to work down to the skin beneath the beard. Beard butter provides richer conditioning through the hair, adding softness and light control. Beard balm usually contains wax and offers firmer shaping. NOIR Beard Oil is best suited to daily conditioning when you want softness, skin comfort, and fragrance without a waxy finish.

Noir is a complex and interesting scent. I detect tea and almost some earthy and/or leathery scents. Definitely unique and layered, which is right up my alley. As far as in beard feel and styling, I’ve had a very good to great experience thus far. The oil is right in my wheelhouse for viscosity, it absorbs great, and my beard styles very well. It’s a solid solid oil, not to mention, the blend is an all-star combo which is why I gave it a shot to begin with! Can’t wait to see how my beard responds to this in different climates and seasons.
Didn’t know what to expect because it was recommended to me. But I’m so glad I tried it. Works really good for my beard and I’m hooked on the scent profile. Looking forward to the next one.
