Formulated to remove excess oil and buildup while leaving the beard comfortable, conditioned and easy to manage.
Beard wash explained
Shampoo is made for scalp hair, and many formulas rely on stronger detergents such as sulfates to cut through scalp oil and styling products. Beard hair is coarser and holds less of that natural oil, so the same strength can leave it rough and the skin beneath tight or flaky.
A well-formulated beard wash is gentler by design. LUMEN uses milder coconut-, oat- and amino-acid-derived cleansers balanced with conditioning ingredients, and sits mildly acidic at around pH 5.2, close to the skin’s own pH. The result is a thorough wash that leaves the beard softer and the skin comfortable.

Wet the beard thoroughly with lukewarm water. Dispense one to two pumps of LUMEN into the palm, then work it through the beard and down to the skin beneath, where oil and buildup collect. Massage for about 30 seconds, then rinse completely. Pat dry with a towel rather than rubbing, and apply beard oil while the beard is still slightly damp.
For most beard types, yes. LUMEN uses a mild, layered cleansing system designed to remove sweat, excess oil and daily buildup without leaving the beard feeling stripped. Very coarse or dry beards may prefer washing every other day or as needed.
LUMEN is formulated to minimize the dry feel that can follow washing. That dryness usually comes from detergents removing the hair’s natural oils along with the dirt, which leaves coarse hair rough and the skin beneath tight. To counter it, glyceryl oleate replaces some of the lipids lost during cleansing, a guar-based conditioner smooths the hair for easier detangling, and panthenol, glycerin and sodium PCA draw in and hold moisture.
Water matters too. Wash with lukewarm rather than hot water, and pat the beard dry instead of rubbing. For coarse or very dry beards, finish with a few drops of Beard Oil while the beard is still slightly damp.
