Our Story

THE BEGINNING

The beard came shortly after the wedding.

What I did not expect was how rough it felt against my wife’s face. Not uncomfortable in a way either of us made a big deal of. Just something I noticed. Something that stayed with me.

So I started paying attention.

What began as a small effort to make my beard softer became something I could not stop thinking about. The ingredients. The ratios. The way different oils sit on skin versus coat it. The way a scent changes over the course of a day.

At some point it stopped being about the beard.

It became about what it means to care for something carefully. How the small rituals, the ones nobody sees, shape how you feel in your own skin. How you show up for the people closest to you.

Folium came from that. Not from a business plan. From paying attention to one small thing, and refusing to stop.

THE DISCIPLINE BEHIND IT

As a composer and pianist, my life has been organized around listening.

Not passively, but as a practice.

The space between notes. The balance and restraint. The way something lands and stays with you long after it ends.

That kind of attention is not something you leave at the piano. It follows you into everything you make - if you let it.

When I began formulating, I found the same questions waiting for me. How do these materials sit together? What remains after the first impression fades? What does the absence of something do to the whole?

I learned that the difference between something good and something lasting is almost always found in the details most people never think to notice.

That discipline found its way here.

OUR PROCESS

Every bottle starts the same way.

Clean labware. Scent-neutralized vessels. No residue from the last batch, no shortcuts carried forward.

Each ingredient is measured by hand. Nothing is included because it sounds impressive on a label. Everything present has earned its place, by how it performs on skin, over time, in real use.

I keep batches small on purpose. Not as a marketing detail. Because small is the only size at which I can give each one the attention it requires.

When it feels right, it is done. Not before.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Grooming culture has always offered an identity to perform.

The lumberjack. The gentleman. The warrior.

These are not wrong, but they are costumes. They tell you who to be while you buy something.

Folium is not interested in selling a self-concept. Only in how you actually feel, when it's just you, in your own home, close to the people you love, in the quiet moments no one performs for.

Grooming should not be a performance. It should be the art of feeling more at home in your own skin.

FOR THOSE WHO NOTICE

This is not for the person looking for the loudest option in the room.

It is for the one who notices texture. Who slows down when something feels right. Who understands that quality is not about volume.

If any of that sounds familiar, you are exactly who I made this for. And if Folium becomes part of your days, that is everything I hoped for.
